Remland Sponsor Olympic Hopeful

5 March 2012
Young Canterbury hockey star Ross Gilham-Jones has been sponsored by a Kent business as he attempts to realise his 2016 Olympic dream.

The 20-year-old city club player, who lives in Hythe, will be supported by Kent-based Remland Carpets, based in Folkestone but active all across the county.

Company owner Trevor Ballard, a keen sportsman himself, was only too pleased to help.

Gilham-Jones, an England U21 player widely tipped to go all the way, has a busy summer ahead of him. He will feature in high profile Test matches against Spain and Germany and will also feature in the European championships, which take place in Holland in August.

His focus will also be on his studies at Canterbury Christchurch University where he is studying sports science. 2013, meanwhile, sees the junior hockey World Cup take place, another longterm target for Gilham-Jones.

All of this will be juggled with his part-time coaching role at King's School, Canterbury.

The young hockey star has been in the England setup for five years now and was captain at U18s level. A personal target is to progress into the senior England side.
