Interface Marks New York City Showroom Opening with DIFFA Benefit “Carpet Art” Exhibit & Auction

18 September 2012

Thirty acclaimed architects and interior designers masterfully and imaginatively reinvented Interface modular carpet tiles into artworks that were auctioned last night to benefit Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS (DIFFA). The creations netted nearly $16,000 for the organization during a celebration attended by 400 industry guests that helped Interface officially inaugurate its recently opened New York City Showroom at 330 Fifth Avenue, 12th Floor.

Among those whose Carpet Art projects were showcased were Harry Allen, Harry Allen Designs; Russell Groves, S. Russell Groves; D.B. Kim, Daroff Design; David Ling, David Ling Architect; Joey Shimoda, Shimoda Design; Ali Tayar, Parallel Design; Ghislane Viñas, Ghislaine Viñas Interior Design; and teams from Gensler, Rockwell Group and Tsao McKown, to name a few. DIFFA Board Chairman Cindy Allen, editor in chief of Interior Design magazine, welcomed guests and the publication co-hosted the event with Interface.

According to Peter Greene, Interface Americas vice president of marketing, “The galvanizing impact that DIFFA brings to our design community is overwhelming, and Interface is excited it could join with the organization as we put out the welcome mat to our new Big Apple showroom. Also overwhelming are the talent and ingenuity that were on display with Carpet Art. We’re delighted the proceeds of this event could help swell DIFFA’s coffers a bit more and at the same time let us welcome architects and designers into our new space with a fun occasion that also gives back in a meaningful way.”

According to Greene, the move to the new 8,000-square-foot space that overlooks The Empire State Building took place earlier this year. With access to a terrace, it provided the perfect setting for a late summer’s eve party.
