Days are shorter; lights on!

20 November 2013
Johanna Pinder-Wilson 20th Century and Antiques Furnishings for Interiors presents an eclectic selection of stylish vintage lighting spanning the 1920s to the 1970s to illuminate those daylight challenged days, those lengthening nights and create good mood within interiors.

Looking to old Mother Nature for inspiration: autumn colour is a time to celebrate and embrace the russet reds, oranges and browns. A time when you gaze from the street into the windows of peoples houses at dusk (...... admit it, we all do !) and notice the lights on more on the inside than the natural light on the outside. Overhanging arc lights, floor lights, wall lights, ceiling lights, table lights, shed warm light upon our crepuscular and nocturnal domestic activities.

Vintage Lights:

Arc Floor Light on Stone Base: A spectacular light composed of natural stone base, with curved steel triple rod construction, each rod with brass finish, the centre rod of adjustable height, terminating with single bulb holder and bronze coloured acrylic lampshade with white acrylic inner light reflector. (Label for manufacturers: Hustadt-Leuchten, Arnsberg, Germany c.1970).

Mini-Angle Shade Table Lights: Pair of small table lights each composed of orange enamel painted finish base and shade, the adjustable angle shade on a yellow metal curved upright. (German, c1970s)

A 1950s French Table Light: Of elegant form and composed of rosewood base with flexible angled brass upright. (French, c.1950s).

Pair of 1940s Red Glass Wall Sconces: A pair of glass, finished in red and heightened in gilt and brass wall lights. 'Sunset Boulevard' glamour. (French, c.1940s).

Candelabra Floor Light: An elegant chromed metal five-arm electric candelabra standing light on upright stem and circular base. (German c.1960s)

Peach Plafonnier ceiling light: A frosted peach coloured glass plafonnier with impressed decoration of large hydrangea flowers and leaves in deep relief which when illuminated provides a calming diffuse peach coloured light. Suspended by three chains. (French, c.1920s).
